class summary
In this course, students will be guided through the basics of acrylic painting through the creation of a self-portrait using a mirror as reference. We’ll practice mixing color and observing proportions to gradually develop our painting. The class will begin with two small practice portraits to get familiar with the materials and process. These studies will lead into a final self-portrait that is revisited and developed over several sessions
MATERIALS
Acrylic Paints / My personal choice is Liquitex brand acrylics
Burnt Umber
Ultramarine Blue
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Red Deep
Titanium White
Mars Black
Synthetic Brushes
2 small rounds
2 small to medium flats
1 larger wash (¾)
Canvas
Medium size canvas pad (9x11 is the minimum size I’d recommend)
We’ll discuss what type of canvas is ideal for you’re individual piece so this does not need to be bought until the 3rd week
Paper towels
Water cup for rinsing brushes
Palette (I recommend the sta-wet palette to minimize paint waste)
Syllabus
Day 1 — Intro to Materials/Sketching with Paint
Day 2 — Repetition Studies
Day 3 — Begin Portrait
Day 4-5 — Finalizing Portrait

Please contact us at least 1 week before class for a full refund. Unfortunately due to our limited class sizes we cannot process refunds after this time. Transfers to other classes are usually possible
It is possible that a class is cancelled if an inadequate number of students register. In this case, tuition will be promptly refunded

Anyone who must miss classes may attend up to two make-up sessions in other classes as long as space permits
